Selby hospital exhibits local art

A stunning image of Selby Abbey has been presented to the New Selby War Memorial Hospital to be enjoyed by patients and visitors.

Thorpe Willoughby Art Class designed a project to produce a group painting reflecting the members' pride in their home town of Selby. Having decided to create an image of the iconic Selby Abbey they selected a photograph from a series taken by Peter Sorrell, a member of Selby Camera Club.

The photo was scaled up in size and then cut into twelve sections for students to work on using acrylic paint. When completed the pieces were fitted together to produce a unique image of the Abbey.

Julie Corbally, Site Coordinator for Selby War Memorial Hospital, said: "We would like to thank the members of Thorpe Willoughby Art Class for this beautiful painting which we are very happy to display in the main waiting area for the benefit and enjoyment of all our visitors and staff."

The painting was created by Chris Darlington, June Fell, Janice Hall, Maureen Steel, Kath Thorpe and tutor Brenda Wright.
